World War 2 Ice Cream of the US NAVY
Ice cream was critical to the war effort in WWII, but I didn't know exactly HOW much a priority it was until this video. As a Merchant Mariner delivering troops and supplies around the Pacific, Atlantic, and Mediterranean theaters, I'm sure Dad delivered his share of ice-cream-making supplies, and sought that cold, creamy morale boost anytime he could. This probably accounts for a big part of the reason why he loved ice cream so much throughout his life! Ice cream even came up as a #1 shore-leave priority-- at a stop-over in Hawai'i of all places!-- in one of his war journals from 1945!
